Sandboxels

How to play Sandboxels

A first-time player guide that explains what to do, what the tools mean, and how to turn random particles into a readable sandbox scene.

First objective

There is no fixed score. Your first objective is to build a small scene that keeps reacting for at least a minute: place a wall base, add sand or dirt, pour water, add plant life, then test heat, fire, cooling, or electricity.

Five-minute starter route

Start with the Sandworks Playground preset, pause if the scene moves too fast, pick one material at a time, and make only one change before watching the result.

  • Draw sand above water to see falling and settling.
  • Add fire near wood or plant to learn burn chains.
  • Drop water on magma to create steam and rock.
  • Use wire and spark to test electricity.
  • Save or export the scene once it becomes interesting.

Controls that matter most

Draw places materials, erase removes mistakes, heat and cool change temperature, ignite starts burn reactions, shock powers conductive parts, and mix helps liquids or powders meet faster.

Fullscreen, mobile, and performance

Use your browser fullscreen mode for a larger canvas. On phones, use a smaller brush and fewer high-energy materials if the game slows down. If the page is frozen, reload it; saves and exported JSON files are local.
